¡Hola! My name is Laura Pantin and I am currently a fourth-grade dual language educator in a two-way immersion program in South Florida. I previously taught Kindergarten dual language for four years in the same program. I obtained a Master of Arts in Bilingual/Bicultural Education from Teachers College Columbia University in 2015.
I have presented at local, national and international
conferences. I have presented at the New
York State Association for Bilingual Education, the 2nd Annual Cambridge
Seminar: Promoting International Education in Chiclayo, Peru, the Seasons of
Learning Conference at Broward County Public Schools, the 2016 Education
Service Center Region 20 Language Conference in San Antonio, Texas, the National
Association of Bilingual Education conference in Dallas, Texas in 2017 and in
Orland, Florida in 2019 and most recently at the Florida Foreign Language
Association Conference in Orlando, Florida.
I also have experience in educational research in the field of bilingual education. I worked as a Research Assistant for two years under Dr. Patricia Martinez-Alvarez,
who specializes in inclusive bilingual/bicultural education. I co-authored
the article “Creating Shared Access: Bilingual Teachers and Children Using
Technology to Multimodally Negotiate Understandings in Science and Language”,
which was published in Spring 2018 in the Multiple Voices for Ethnically
Diverse Exceptional Learners Journal. I have also been featured in the Our
City Weston June 2018 magazine for an article titled, “Gator Run Dual Language Kindergarten Classes Operate for Success”, the
Our City Weston September 2017 magazine for an article titled, “Gator Run
Teacher Named Bilingual Educator of the Year” and in the National Science Teachers
Association Reports in January 2016 for an article titled, “Learning Science in
a Second Language”. I have also written a critical review in the Worlds of
Words Review: Reading Across Cultures electronic publication for the book “All
for the Better: A Story of El Barrio”, in their Volume VI, Issue 4 on global
diasporas.
I am extremely passionate about the field of bilingual education and specifically
dual language programming. I created LearningBilingually as a way to disseminate
information on the powerful advantages and the inherit importance of
bilingualism and to share resources, ideas and personal experiences as an
educator and advocate in the field.
